Hi All, My name is Yvonne (Botts) Cunnick. I am currently looking for any information on my grandfather, Harry Joseph Botts b. 2/1/1884 in Elk City, Clarion, PA. He married Florence Mae Wetzel abt.1908-09 in Harrison Co. VA (WV). I am told he came from the gypsys of the oil fields. His parents were George and Jane (nee unknown) Botts. I have been unable to locate any information at all on Harry's family. My father says they were shunned from their families because when they married, he was Catholic and she was Protestant. Harry had a sister in Harrisburg, Daulphin, PA., but we do not know what her name was. He did mention his father had a cousin by the name of Albert Kunkle. My father is the runt of his lot, and knows very little about either of his parents. It was not talked about much as he was growing up. Unfortunately, I am under a time limit to give him any information, he is very ill and I wish very much to help him (and myself) learn something before our time is through. I would be very grateful for any leads in my search. Thank you all for your time and help.

In your information you have a William, b. ca 1868. in a latrer post you said your line was from the Norfolk, ChesapeAke, Virginia Beach Area.  Could this be your William?  1900 Virginia, Norfolk
William [ did not note the surname variation in my note to make this message to you] b. Aug 1879.
most of my census entries have assigned "C" nos., such as C10555, meaning the 10,555 census entry. In the A-brook names this was not done, so it is difficult for me to go to the range of numbers where other 1900 VA Norfolk census entries would be. Somewhere I have indexes to the census entries. Recently lost two computer hard drives within a few days of each other. Each had what the other had, i.e. duplicates. The idea was that if one failed, there was always the other. They both went about the same time! Have restored ther main files from backup removable Syquest driver. It will take some looking to find the census indexes. A printout of the Holbrook census entries, printed in small size, runs several hundreds of pages long. I'll look for the census backups tomorrow. They are likely at one of my children's place in RI.
Could this William be yours?
It really is not a needle deal. I have the American lines fairly well worked out thru about 1830-50. Have not tried to progress them further. The majority came from one area of England, and almost a dozen available wills have been obtained. They are not found in records prior to the late 1500s and early 1600s. I am about 7/8 done with the holdings of one library ( which runs about 15 pps, small type ) of early records. They are markedly absent and, from memory, do not believe any have been found prior to mid 1500s, and many of these records date to 800 or so. there was one set of records, essentially tax rolls of 1302, 1303, 1347 and I do not recall any being listed.
Let me know if William could be yours. I have no idea of what type records you used to obtain your 1868 date for him.
